Live bands perform at weddings, corporate events, festivals, private parties, bars and restaurants, from a solo acoustic act for a ceremony to a ten-piece dance band with horns. Many cover bands take requests and learn a first-dance song; others play original material or a particular style such as jazz, country, mariachi, bluegrass or classical strings. Visitors come here wanting energy on a dance floor that a playlist cannot give.

Bands are not licensed, so look at video of a recent live performance, not just a studio recording, and ask whether the lineup on the video is the lineup you will get. Ask how long each set is and how breaks are covered, whether they bring their own sound and lighting or need the venue to supply it, how much stage space and power they need, and whether they can play lower during dinner. Ask about learning a special song, the overtime rate, and what happens if a member is sick. Pricing is a flat fee per performance that rises with the number of musicians and the hours, with travel sometimes extra. Many venues require liability insurance from any vendor, so ask. For breaks or late-night, DJs can fill in; ask your wedding venues about noise limits first.
