DJs in the Vanguard Directory
DJs provide the music and often the emcee work for weddings, school dances, corporate parties, birthdays, bar and bat mitzvahs and bar nights, bringing their own sound system, lighting and music library. A good one reads a room, keeps the timeline moving and handles announcements so the host does not have to grab a microphone. People come to this page because the playlist on a phone will not fill a dance floor.
There is no DJ license, so judge the person and the paperwork. Ask whether the DJ you meet is the DJ who shows up, how they handle must-play and do-not-play lists, what happens if equipment fails mid-event, and whether they carry liability insurance, which many venues now require before a vendor loads in. Pricing is usually a flat fee for a set number of hours with an overtime rate on top, and may add lighting, a second speaker set for a ceremony or cocktail hour, or a microphone for toasts. Ask what the deposit is and whether it is refundable. If you want a live sound instead, compare live bands; for a camera on the dance floor, see photo booth rentals.
The DJs on this page wrote their own listings, and each was reviewed by a person before publication. If you spin for weddings or parties, apply to get listed — free, and a few minutes of your time.
