Risk Management Consultants in the Vanguard Directory
Risk management consultants help a business find what could hurt it and decide what to do about each exposure: insure it, reduce it, shift it by contract or accept it. Typical work includes reviewing an insurance program, workplace safety and compliance, vendor and contract risk, and continuity planning for fires, outages or the loss of a key person.
Start by asking how they are paid. A consultant who also sells insurance earns commission on what you buy; a fee-only consultant does not. Neither is wrong, but you should know which you are talking to. Ask about experience in your industry, since a restaurant, a contractor and a clinic face very different risks. Ask what you receive at the end — a written risk register, policy recommendations, a safety program — and who keeps it current. A designation such as the ARM, or a background in safety or claims, is worth asking about.
