General Practitioners in the Vanguard Directory

A general practitioner — a family medicine or internal medicine doctor, often called a primary care physician — is the doctor you go to for most things: annual checkups, a fever that will not break, blood pressure or diabetes management, vaccinations, and referrals onward. Most people on this page are replacing a doctor who retired or left their insurance network, or establishing care after a move.

Ask the practice whether it is accepting new patients, which insurance plans it is contracted with, and how long the wait is for a new-patient visit. Find out whether sick visits can be booked the same day, whether telehealth is offered, and who answers after hours. Some practices run on a direct primary care membership instead of billing insurance, so ask how they charge. Board certification in family or internal medicine is a reasonable bar, and the state medical board lists each doctor’s license. For care beyond primary care, see specialist doctors.

Every practice shown here put in its own listing, and a person checked it before it was published. If you provide primary care, apply to get listed — free, and a few minutes is all it takes.
