Speech Therapists in the Vanguard Directory

Speech therapists, formally speech-language pathologists, treat problems with speech, language, voice, and swallowing. On the pediatric side that means late talkers, articulation and stuttering, and language delays tied to autism or hearing loss; on the adult side it means aphasia and swallowing difficulty after a stroke, voice disorders, and cognitive-communication problems after a brain injury. Parents arrive here after a pediatrician or preschool flagged a concern; adults arrive after a hospital discharge.

Every state licenses speech-language pathologists, and most hold a national certificate of clinical competence on top of a master’s degree; both are searchable. Ask what the evaluation involves and how long it takes to get a plan, what experience the therapist has with your specific diagnosis, and whether sessions happen in a clinic, at home, at school, or by video. Ask how progress will be measured and when you should expect to see it. Most clinics bill insurance per session, and some school-age services are available through the public school system at no charge, so ask about that too. For hearing testing before a speech evaluation, see audiologists; for motor and sensory work, see occupational therapists.

Each speech therapy practice here wrote its own listing, and a person reviewed it before it went live. If you are a speech-language pathologist, apply to get listed — free, with a form that takes a few minutes.
